Participating in the progression described above has tremendous meaning
to me and other designers who witnessed the world of webdesign's
transition from an underground hobby to an industry that is integral to every industry.
My exploration into webdesign commenced in 1998 after a friend had
created a simple webpage using basic HTML. As a natural artist and
lover of technology, I was inspired and intrigued by the fact that my
friend had designed and programmed a globally accessible product conveying his interests and connections to other people, brands, and
organizations. I was also fascinated by the fact that his site reflected his
self-perception and identity - the layout, typefaces, and "feel" of the site expressed something about his personality.
Without realizing it, I was hooked on online marketing, whether it be for a person or multinational company. I've designed dozens of aesthetically pleasing, functional websites. My most impressive digital portfolio was featured on renowned worldwide design portal ThreeOH.com in the Spring of year 2000.
Delving into webdesign when it was an experimental blank
digital canvas instilled in me an intuitive feel for web programming
and aesthetics. It also taught me that every web site is a scientific and artistic marketing project because the goal is always to capture an audience or target market and to keep this audience returning to the site. It is crucial that a webdesigner, who is essentially a market researcher, delves into the mentality of the target market, no matter what product, service, or idea is being showcased. It might be a million customers, or ten thousand clients, several family members, or it might just be one person - the creator of the site. Every pixel is pivotal.
